These pictures were taken in various places during a 9 day period in California and Nevada.

Red-winged Blackbird - Female

Not an exciting picture but I like the blue sky.  It almost makes the photo look fake.

Spotted Towhee

Roundhill, NV - 6/9/2009

Williamson Sapsucker - Female

A male (which looks quite different) was also spotted but I never got close enough to get a picture.

American White Pelican

I was having a great time photographing the Pelicans at a small lake in east Reno.  The head-on picture was cool.  It really shows off the size of the bird (9 ft. wing span) and also the airfoil created by the wings.

I believe these are all pictures of "chick-feeding" adults.  This is indicated by the "greyish" head.

Lady Bug Swarm

I know, these are not birds but it is cool none-the-less.

These are some neat pictures taken at the Monterey Bay Aquarium.   Not bad for all the people and lighting conditions.  Above I like the silhouette of the Sea Horses especially the intertwined photo.  The Leafy Sea Dragon is really cool looking.  The Jelly Fish are like alien beings just floating around.

Black-crowned Night-Heron

Black-Crowned Night-Heron and Snowy Egret Rookery

This was a great encounter.  It is more likely a roosting spot instead of a rookery since most of the chicks were fledged.  A few adults were still sitting on nests.  The Snowy Egrets far outnumbered the Black-Crowned Night-Herons.

Just left is a Snowy Egret.

Forster's Tern Fledgling

Begging to circling parents for food!

Newark, CA 6/16/2009

Nuttall's Woodpeckers

A family group of 4 was encountered.  The adult male and female were still caring for their fledged chicks.  Right is an immature female (I believe), center is a adult male and left is an immature male.
