The butterflies have returned to The High Desert Museum. This time there are some Rufous Hummingbirds in the exhibit too. This exhibit runs September 29, 2012 through April 7, 2013.
High Desert Museum 2012 Butterfly Exhibit
Unfortunately not all the butterflies in the exhibit are ID'ed in the available booklet. So, the right two are unknown but I think the one below is a Longwing of some sorts.
The photo below of the White Peacock was taken against the lights in the exhibit. Using a flash makes the butterfly tranparent. I think it is a pretty neat looking picture.
The photo below of the Blue Morpho was taken against the lights in the exhibit. Using a flash makes the butterfly tranparent. The interesting thing is that without using the flash there is no color when looking at the butterfly.
Right - Another unidentified butterfly.
Right - Two more unidentified butterflies.
Right - It is hard to get photos of the Hummingbirds. They stay high in the exhibit and also tend to be against the netting around the exhibit (which makes a crummy background). I got lucky and got a photo of one coming down to the flowers to get a drink.
I decided to put all the other Hummingbird photos in the Birding 2012 and 2013 pages.
